Guest presentation at OpenCar in Las Vegas

We have been working for some time on bringing apps from the smartphone into the car with intelligent linking to navigation.

Recently we tested OpenCar by INRIX. With great success, since the prototype of our MapTrip navigation system ran smoothly on the OpenCar framework within just 10 days, as our video shows.

At the OpenCar Coalition Event held within the framework of CES Las Vegas, our CEO Thomas Schulte-Hillen also presented our experiences with OpenCar in the auditorium. OpenCar is not about adapting an existing smartphone app to the screen in the vehicle, but about creating HTML 5-based web content – which of course is far simpler. We believe the business case pursued by OpenCar is highly promising since it combines numerous advantages for OEMs, Tier-1s and all app providers. Creating the prototype was so easy and smooth that we will be sure to explore this technology further. A complete MapTrip app based on the OpenCar framework will be created in the near future.

Open HTML 5 platform

With the OpenCar framework, INRIX has developed an open platform for HTML 5-based apps that allows third-party providers to deliver their content for various car brands. Apps that are developed are hosted in the browser-based INRIX Integrated Content Cloud where they can be selected by the OEMs, who add a manufacturer-specific UI. Third-party providers only have to adapt their app once and can always make the latest version available to multiple OEMs with little effort. With no individual programming and without additional certification costs that are very high with some other systems. The integration of Amazon’s voice service Alexa is the latest OpenCar coup. It allows drivers to access music, audio books, current traffic and weather information, and news by voice activation.
