Reaching the scene of an emergency as quickly as possible. While this is just one small part of optimal deployment, it is so important that it can save lives in an emergency. And really it is not all that small. Many drivers assume they know their territory so well that they can choose the fastest route to the scene and a navigation system is unnecessary. But things often look different in practice: Temporary road works, road closures at short notice, complicated factory premises, and new streets are uncertainty factors that can eat up valuable minutes in an emergency.
The best route to the scene at a click
With MapTrip 112, we are now offering navigation software that drivers and control centers can fully rely on. MapTrip is programmed to always find the best route to the destination. Ideally MapTrip 112 is linked to the control center software so that all deployment information can be exchanged automatically.
Such as the destination. The coordinates or address of the location are entered in the control center, so the drivers in the vehicle merely have to start navigation with a click. Additional information is provided simultaneously, for example about other emergency vehicles and where they are currently traveling. The control center can customize this information using a group function so that every emergency team gets exactly the details it needs.
Confidently circumventing all road closures
Municipal authorities generally inform the control centers daily about detours, temporary roadworks, or events that affect the traffic situation but usually do not make their way into “official traffic information”. This information is often exchanged between the control center and drivers verbally or using handouts. The new Editor in MapTrip 112 automates this process. Here the control center has data sovereignty, entering the data into the system using the Editor. Thanks to ongoing synchronization with all devices, the software chooses the best available route at the outset and thereby minimizes the risk of having to turn around and go a different way.
Straightforward expansion of map data
Standard map data available in navigation systems, regardless of the provider, are not sufficient for emergency vehicles. Updates for new or changed streets often take months, and information about factory premises, access roads, backyards, or other minor routes is frequently lacking. Especially relevant for fire departments: Routes or bridges that are closed to heavy vehicles may be used regardless in case of emergency. But either the driver or better the navigation system has to know that. Control centers are already entering all relevant local map data in their own maps. Thanks to a special data structuring process in MapTrip 112, the customized control center map data can also be integrated in and synchronized with the navigation devices. Thus we ensure that the control center and the devices in the vehicles always have access to the same map data.
For MapTrip 112, we studied the requirements of emergency services in detail and developed some special functions in addition to those already described: Reference routes that can be specified by the control center and special emergency routing are only two examples.
We are also presenting MapTrip 112 to the industry audience at the PMR Expo in Cologne (28-30 November 2017) and at GPEC in Frankfurt (20-22 February 2018).
